The Necklace, Symbolism and The Short Story
The Necklace was written by Guy de Maupassant in 1844, and it was published on a newspaper named Le Gaulois. The story was about a woman called Mathilde, who was invited to a ball. Her husband agreed to let her participate the ball, and she borrowed an expensive necklace from her friend, Madame Forestier, in which she lost it and have to pay the debt for 10 years.
My story is about a life of a military bomber, based on some historical facts. The story might not be as interesting as the Necklace but there are some similarities between my writing and the Necklace in terns of different writing techniques, such as imagery, metaphor and symbolism.
In terms of imagery, I wrote "in a fiery explosion, one of the bombs teared through the lead aircraft and igniting flames that illuminated the sky" for my draft writing. This refers to how the bomb damaged, or stroke opponent's fight jet. And in the Necklace, de Maupassant wrote "She thought of silent antechambers hung with Oriental tapestry, illumined by tall bronze candelabra, and of two great footmen in knee breeches who sleep in the big armchairs, made drowsy by the oppressive heat of the stove". This was Mathilde's imagination towards the scene of the ball. The imagery used in my writing was a description of the look when bomb hit a fighter jet, causing an explosion, and that of in the Necklace was a description of a scene in Mathilde's mind.
I have also used metaphor in my story. "she could hear the god of war sings, and the people of poor cried", and the phrase represents that the region was under strong was inferno at that time and people was suffering from that. In the Necklace, metaphor was used to describe Mathilde's strong emotion when she was dancing, as quoted "She danced with rapture, with passion, intoxicated by pleasure, forgetting all in the triumph of her beauty".
I have used symbolism in my writing for the name of the aircrafts. In my story, the name of the last B-52H bomber was named "the Spirit of Minot", which was based on historical facts. In the story of the Necklace, symbolism was used to describe the environment that Mathilde was living, as quoted "at the poverty of her dwelling, at the bareness of the walls, at the shabby chairs, the ugliness of the curtains".

As discussed you have understood the imagery and symbolism however the metaphor is not quite correct - please start working on your other posts and ensuring this blog is ready for reassessment
