Processing Post: Editing and Quality Control

Image
After the two shootings, there were a lot of photos to go through. It is not possible to edit all of them, so my thought was to select those pictures that I wanted to be posted onto my website. But before my second shootings, I have already picked my 10 photos, so I actually did not add photos into my website. This post will record the items that I will edit for all the photos. Take ZFC_4630.jpg as an example. Photo above is the edited version of ZFC_4630 while the photo below was the original. First, I usually starting my editing with the Basics, changing the light and darkness. I love contrast to be +35 as it is my preferences, as it would provide enough colour for the photo while not ruin the photo with too much contrast. Reducing whites and highlights would help reduce the brightness of the skies and the light from the car facing me. Increase blacks would help increase the black of the photo to make it brighter in dark area and reducing shadows would help balance the shadows t...

Week Six: Test Shoot Practice

Image
Today, I have went to a test shoot to test my photo ability. I took 64 photos, and some of them were taken accidentally, because I have turned on the touch-screen shutter of my camera.  I have used frame in a frame, leading lines, as well as the rule of third and low and high angle. Here are the contact sheets that I made for my test shoot.  The first photo that I would like to talk about is ZFC_2497. I have used low angle and the rule of third. The  The bench lied on the middle horizontally and on the lower one third vertically of the frame. Let's have a look on the settings. The settings were 1/125s f/4.5 ISO-400. I used ISO-400 for a stable setting in a cloudy day. In order to have better field of depth, I chose to use f/4.5 and as a result of balancing the light, I have used 1/125 for the shutter speed. I used the focal length 70mm to make the photo more narrow and tight. The next photo that I would like to talk about is ZFC_2500.jpg. It was a photo that two car parke...

Processing Post: Shot 2 & Contact Sheet

Image
The second shooting in London took place in 18/11/2023. I have been to a couple of places to under my photo shooting. I have created a contact sheet for the shooting but it contains 31 pages, and I will put the contact sheet into a  Google Drive  folder, so that it would save a lot space for the post. There were a total number of 923 photos taken during the shooting. I have used the rule of third, low angle and high angle. I would like to talk about some photos that I have taken and their settings. The first photo is ZFC_6876.jpg. I have used leading line in this photo. The setting was 1/80s f/4 ISO-200. The reasons why I use setting is that in order to capture with highest Dynamic Range, and therefore ISO-200 was used. Then I have to absorb more light, I have to full open the aperture to f/4, allowing more light to come through the lens. As a result, I have to turn down my shutter speed, as it was a bit dark on the surroundings (lights were blocked by the buildings).  Th...

Processing Post: Shot One & Contact Sheet

Image
I took my first shooting on 11/11/2023 in London. I have been to a couple of places to under my photo shooting. I have created a contact sheet for the shooting but it contains 55 pages, and I will put the contact sheet into a Google Drive folder, so that it would save a lot space for the post. There was a total number of 1,648 photos and 3 videos. I have used panning, rule of third, leading line and low angle for my photos. Here is ZFC_6659.jpg, this is a night shot that I have taken at St. Pancras Station. In order to avoid being noisy, I have used a very low ISO of 200 and as a result I have to lower my shutter speed to capture more light. I set the aperture to f/4, which is the greatest aperture I could have in a Nikon Z 24-70mm f/4. I shot it in portrait because it would looks upstraight. I used 70mm in order to have a tighter and narrower composition.  Another photo that I would like to talk about is ZFC_4630.jpg. The setting that I used was 1/400s f/8 ISO-200. The reas...

Week Nine: Reflection

Image
After 9 weeks of tough and intense studying, my first term in DMUIC finally comes to an end. It was tough, there are lots of things to be done, and there were assessments and projects coming up one by one. It was not my first visit to the UK, in fact I have been to this country in 2015. The most unforgettable memories were the visit to London, as it was just so similar to my hometown, Hong Kong. Therefore, when I heard about the project, my first idea was to take pictures of London. As a photographer, there were a lot of skills and things to prepare for a shooting, which I have not exposed to before. As a result, it gave me the opportunity to enhance my preparation and my reflection. I have learned more about writing and research, looking more into the scene behind an image, as well as the techniques that other photographers had included into their work. Furthermore, I have learnt to prepare the initial idea and make it into a project plan, and to discover my ideal customers....

Week Two: Creating the Advertisement and the Final Work

Image
This week homework is to make our own advertisement. My idea was to make a advertisement for a studio called ThomaStudio, which selling camera and lens. The reason why I choose this topic as I will progress to Photography and I wanted something that is related to this. I think using the templates in Adobe Express would be suitable and more convenient.  I used Adobe Express for this week's work.   First, open a new page for the icon. Second, I simply added a camera image from the templates. Then I added the name "ThomaStudio" under the camera, with the font "Barber" in used. After that I removed the background so that it will fit into the poster without being awkward.  I opened another blank portrait sheet for the poster. Then I imported another image from the template, which there were some camera and gears in the background. I then added my logo that I made previously.  Then added a tagline "Gear up and Go" on a blank area of the picture. And then ad...

Feedback and UX Testing + Amendment of Website

Image
I have collected some feedbacks by using Google Forms. This questionnaire helps me to improve and finalise my website by getting ideas and opinions from my fellow classmates. The total number of respondents was 9 persons. Only 1 respondent thought that my page was fair. The rest of the the respondents thought that it was either good or excellent. I will keep no change for my homepage. There were 2 respondents that thought that it was fair about my portfolio, while there were 2 of them considered it was just good. And the rest of the respondents thought that it was excellent. I will add a title for each photo. There were around 56% of respondents thought the writing of my about page were excellent and the rest considered it was good. I would not focus on having any changes for the about page. Only 1 respondent thought that my contact page was fair, and the rest voted for good and excellent evenly. I will add the background image that I have been using for other pages of the website...
